India Police has recently registered a cheating case against former cricketer Shanthakumaran Sreesanth. The case was filed by Kerala resident Sareesh Gopalan, who accused Rajiv Kumar and Venkatesh Kini of swindling INR18.70 lakh from him under the pretense of constructing a sports academy. Sreesanth was also implicated in the fraud case as he allegedly acted as their partner-in-crime.
Sreesanth, known for his controversial past, played 90 matches and took 169 wickets for India. However, in 2013, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) imposed a lifetime ban on him due to spot-fixing charges during the Indian Premier League (IPL). He, along with his Rajasthan Royals teammates Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, was arrested by the Delhi Police in connection with the spot-fixing scandal. Although he was acquitted in the case, his ban was initially reduced to seven years by the Supreme Court.
Despite being shortlisted for the IPL auctions in 2021 and 2022, Sreesanth remained unsold on both occasions. Subsequently, he decided to retire from all forms of cricket.
It is worth mentioning that Sreesanth recently made shocking remarks about Shaheen Afridi, a Pakistani cricketer, during the Asia Cup 2023.
